Field Trip

Just a reminder that on Monday we'll be heading to the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor for a field trip to see the Black Mambazo vocal group. We'll be leaving out at 9:00 and returning at 1:00. Students need to be in our standard school uniform. I've also had a few students ask about spending money, they won't need any money for the trip as there will be nothing to purchase.

Scholastic Book Orders
Thanks you to those of you who ordered books from our last Scholastic order, the books should be in by January 28th. Because of your orders, we were able to order $10 worth of books from our classroom library.

Snack
Thank you to the parents of Maranda Martin and Jardyn Hollie, for donating snacks to our classroom. They were much needed and appreciated!

Field Trips
I am very excited to announce that we have two field trips scheduled for the first week of February. The first trip will be on February 1st to the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor for a musical performance, the second trip will be an in-school field trip on February 4th where students will be creating objects using Legos. Please check your child's backpack tonight for additional information pertaining to cost and more details.

Smart Board
Our classroom has gotten a much anticipated new piece of technology...a Smart Board. Be sure to ask your child about what it is and how we use it in our classroom.

Flu Shots
On January 22nd our school will be offering FREE flu shots for students from 2:00-6:00 p.m. In order for students to receive a shot, a parent must be present.

Classroom Update

I hope that you all had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday/break! I certainly enjoyed the time I spent with my family and friends.
It's hard to believe that we just finished our 70th day of school already. I am beginning to see the growth and progress that each student has made since the beginning of the school year, which is exciting!

Here are a few updates:

Reading Logs
Reading logs will continue this week. Please be sure that your child spends at least 20 minutes per day reading at home. Each child will have a book to take home from school. The book must be returned the following day in order for them to check out a new book.

Math Homework
Math homework has also resumed this week. Remember homework is assigned 4 days per week (Monday-Thursday) and should be completed the night that it's assigned. Homework should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete. If your child is struggling with the assignment, please send a note letting me know what the problem is, so that we can address it the following day in class.

Social Studies
This week in Social Studies we are continuing to discuss the geography of Michigan. Ask your child to tell you what some of the natural characteristics of our state are. (Hint: Great Lakes, mountain ranges, islands, inland lakes, and sand dune areas are a few)

Days out of school
January 15th is a professional development day for teachers, therefore students will not report. On January 18th, school will be closed in observance of MLK day. Please be sure to make arrangements

In School Field Trip
On February 4/5th we will be participating in an in school Lego Field Trip. Please keep an eye out for an information sheet to come home with your child within the next week.
